Warmth is back in the neutrals
Creams, taupes and warm whites have displaced a lot of the stark cool grey of recent years. They flatter oak and walnut cabinetry, which is itself having a long run, and they hold up better under warm evening lighting.
Honed and leathered finishes
Polished stone is no longer the automatic choice. Honed surfaces read softer and hide fingerprints better, while leathered finishes add a subtle texture that suits darker granite particularly well. Both are worth seeing in person, because photographs flatten the difference entirely.
Character over perfection
Interest in stone with visible movement and genuine variation has grown, particularly in quartzite. If you want a surface that looks like it came out of the ground rather than a factory, this is the direction to look.
Full height backsplashes
Carrying the stone up the wall rather than stopping at four inches remains popular, and for good reason. It removes a grout line, it is easier to clean, and it lets a dramatic slab actually be seen.
